I know this is a little late but I still have to blog about it because its so cool. I guess you've all heard of the Ice Bear Project? If not, heres a little info:
The Ice Bear Project is the opening event at the WWF's International Arctic Programme running from the 5th-17th December in Copenhagen. The Ice Bear Project is - as it suggests - a giant Bear carved out of ice that encases a bronze cast of a real Polar Bear's skeleton. The Bear stands at 1.8m tall, the exact height of the average thickness of the floating sea ice in the Arctic Sea. The idea behind the Bear is that for the duration of the IAP it will stand in the centre of Nytorv and slowly begin to melt in the sun, also, the public are encouraged to touch the bear which in turn will make it melt faster, leaving only the skeleton behind. The point of this is pretty obvious, its designed to parallel the direct influence mankind is having on the melting of the Polar Icecaps and the threat it poses to not only our planet but also the creatures (such as the polar bear) that inhabit such areas that are under threat of extinction from said melting.

Personally, I think the Ice Bear Project is brilliant. Its such a cool way of showing people what effect we are having on the planet and its inhabitants, and the way they have designed it means the message is easy to grasp for people of all ages - kids will understand as well as adults - which has to be a good thing right? I only wish I could be there to see it and touch it myself, but they reckon it will be melted entirely within 2 weeks - and I'm not going to Copenhagen til March! Damn.
But Copenhagen in March is with me so hush :)
