So today was judgement day.The day my poem got critiqued by my Creative Writing class and 2 published lecturers. I have to say I didn't want to leave my room this morning I was dreading it so much... But I dragged my sorry ass out and I'm so glad I did! It went down a treat! =D There were barely any negative comments, just a few line cut suggestions, but there were LOTS of positive comments! Apparently the poem had a clear and concise rhythm, I demonstrate great control over my language, and the metaphor behind the poem was understood without me needing to explain. YES! Also, the published poet that it my lecturer said that he loved it and that he wants me to write more. DOUBLE YES!
So anyway, here's the updated version of 'Reading' now called 'Read Me':
Read Me
You open the book,
the first few pages are bare,
you bear the frustration.
You flick by the blank canvases, faster
than your parents would have wanted you to.
Finally a word,
then a few, then a lot,
then a string of swear words that never seem to stop...
But in time they do, with a page cut neatly out,
and the book lays open, half unread,
